'SALE' IS A POWERFUL WORD!
Yesterday i happen to visit a popular mall in Delhi and was amazed to see how brands have slashed their prices and offering customers a range of clothes and accessories at a fraction of their original costs.
The mall was flocking with trend-savvy shoppers searching for the best deals.
This further made me think why people actually do an impulsive buying specially during a ‘sale’ season?
Some thoughts that came to my mind:
- I guess we have been conditioned at a young age to derive joy from receiving new things
- Instant gratification
- The ‘fear’ of missing out on what seems like a terrific deal
- A shift is consumer focus towards ‘saving’ and not spending
- Marketing messages that successfully make consumers feel guilty
I feel ultimately, the goal of a business is to get a consumer to buy something that they need but don’t have, or to get rid of something they have, but don’t need or want.
